FEMINIST PERSPECTIVE AND ITS IMPLICATIONS TO NURSING

Abstract

The feminist perspective challenges social practices based on gender and criticizes valúes and beliefs that generate this practice. In nursing, traditional ideology and valúes profoundly embedded and rarely questioned can perpetúate negative attitudes and behaviors against women and the nurses, socialized in a patriarchal society might not recognize the incongruity of those actions. This paper describes some aspects of feminist perspective and the implications to nursing in order to contribute for a reflection about the situation lived by us as women and nurses and to offer some alternative views for change and empowerment.
