The family while waiting for the son's birth centers its expectations in a healthy child. The birth of a son with congenital defect or lesión of some organ when born generates deep anxiety among the parents, especially if child's problem is in the visual system taking to the subnormal visión or blindness. The present study is descriptive, qualitative and has as objective to notice the knowledge that the relatives have on the cause of the visual deficiency in their children that are in treatment for visual stimulation. The sample consisted of three mothers that were interviewed during the child's attendance in a nucleus of precocious stimulation. Two mothers knew that their children had subnormal visión and they attributed this to the "prematurity... he passed a long time in the incubator... exhibited to oxygen... problems during pregnancy". The diagnosis of retinopathy of prematurity was known by these mothers. The third mother told "I do not know why he is like this, I would like that somebody could explain it to me". This mother showed to be shyer than the other ones, in spite of
having the same time of attendance in the service. It is concluded that the systematic knowledge evaluation is necessary so as to give good Information about the son's visual situation.
