Abstract

The study aimed to investígate basic human needs injured during pre and post surgery procedures in renal transplantation. Data were collected from 31 interviews with patients during pre surgery procedures and 25 interviews with patients during post-surgery procedures. Results show that there is a higher physical harassment in patients during pre-surgery stage and on transplanted patients, in general, uncertainty and anxiety are predominant concerning graft results. It was concluded that there exist a positive approach for patients during pre-surgery stage who were waiting for transplantation and this was evident in 100,0% of the transplanted patients on this sample who showed an improvement on their life quality after receiving the graft.
