Keywords:
Telephone counseling, Support to childrearingAbstract
Descriptive and transversal study that analyzes calls received in a telephone of an outpatient private pediatric center, where nursing activities are developed. Nursing counseling by telephone is supplied during 24 hours.
The results show that during a year of operation, 286 calls were received, the majority carried out by the mother. The analysis of the calls received revealed that 50% of them were due to health problems of the child: respiratory, colic, difficulties with stool evacuation; in second place, problems related to breastfeeding, and then related to basic cares. Most of the problems can be solved at home, with simple measures. In most of the cases, nursing intervention contributed to solve the problem, showing that the telephone is an important support system for home care of children. The use of this kind of nursing support is suggested for childrearing during the first year of age.
