Because health promotion and disease prevention are highly related to beliefs, attitudes and behaviors, several conceptual approaches or models have been developed in order to understand and modify health behavior. The psychosocial models included in this review are the Health Belief Model, the Reasoned Action Model, the Planned Behavior Model, and the Information-Motivation- Behavioral Skills Model. These models provide a framework for research and for diverse programs of health promotion and disease prevention.
