Abstract

This descriptive correlational study was carried out by means of a retrospective survey involving 796 nursing workers at a Brazilian public hospital and aimed to identify the existence of a relation between the subject “work accident” and the occurrence of these events among the subjects. The results revealed 298 (37.4%) accident victims, totaling 443 occurrences. Teaching on the subject was non-systematized, without any continuity or emphasis on the teaching-learning process. However, inferential statistical analysis revealed some evidence that the teaching received in nursing courses contributed to a decrease in the number of accidents.
