Abstract

The purposes of this study were to identify the feelings of pleasure experienced by Intensive Care Unit nurses. It was carried out in two adults’ Intensive Care Units of a school hospital. It was a qualitative research in which eight nurses from all shifts were interviewed. The theoretical framework used was the work psychodynamics and the methodological one was the content analysis. The results showed that, besides working in a stressful complex environment with patients in serious condition in which death is certain, the nurse’s related feeling pleasure in several occasions.
