Abstract

The article analyses a particular publication, La Vie urbaine magazine, the first one dedicated to a new discipline, urban planning. The aim is to make evident the contribution of the first Urban Planning Degrees from the lnstitute of Urban Planning of the University of Paris, founded in 1919 and the first one dedicated to train specialists in this discipline. This contribution is measured through the thesis summaries, which were published in La Vie urbaine between 1919 and 1978; and once the students and articles are identified, it aims to emphasize the selected geographic areas, as well as the issues they privilege.

The premise is that the editorial team of La Vie urbaine used the thesis as an academic exercise to enrich its contents and to promote several ideas born under the support of the training institution, of which has been part since 1927. ln fact, the magazine totals 35 articles originated in graduation works of students focused between 1925 and 1939, and 1950 and 1968. While there is no intention to measure and explain the influence of these articles, it can be said that La Vie urbaine achieved and developed a role as a diffusion vector of urbanism, and in this effort it succeeded to place in the forefront a considerable.
