Abstract

The earthquake and tsunami of 27/F of 2010 caused significant territorial changes on the coast of the Biobío Region given its devastating effects. As a contribution to the process of Reconstruction currently developing specific studies were conducted in the most affected communities, aimed at vulnerable elements and assess the risk associated with historical tsunamis and extreme scenarios. A methodology based on the local character of settlements that would reflect the dominant dimension of vulnerability, his relationship with the adaptability to current socio-territorial changes and the creation of new scenarios designed derivatives risk. 14 specific studies where extreme scenarios were different even in neighboring towns, with the events of 1835, 1960 and 2010, the main were performed. The results are discussed in terms of the spatial differentiation and found factors that explained the hierarchy of vulnerability/risk.
