Abstract

This paper reviews the processes used to evaluate the areas affected by the forest fire occurred on August 25th 2015 in Ilaló Volcano, images Landsat Data Continuity Mission captured on October 30th 2014 and September 15th 2015, program were used. The developed technique allowed the production of intermediate detail maps of burnt areas, based on the establishment of BAI threshold (Burned Area Index) and the estimate of NBR (Normalized Burn Ratio). From their comparison, it was established that the areas of affectation obtained with the BAI index differ from those derived with the NBR coefficient by 8.5%. The methods evaluated were particularly interesting for the following reasons: the evaluation of the affected area was practical and possible, with an expedited processing time, and without requiring field verification data. On the other hand, the results obtained denote an effective utility in the production of local cartographic inputs and as support in the decision making for the evaluation, monitoring and regeneration of areas affected by forest fires.
