Abstract

This research aimed to geomorphologically analyze the Fouqué estuary through the use of satellite images and bathymetric data for the correct determination of the place name. The methodology consisted of analyzing and geomorphologically interpreting the Global Mapper satellite images (V18) and the multibeam bathymetric data obtained by a hydrographic survey-carried out in 2014 by the Servicio Hidrográfico y Oceanográco de la Armada de Chile (SHOA-Chilean Navy). The results allowed to identify geoforms and active modeling processes in the background and subaerial environment of the Fouqué estuary of glacial character. The discussion states that the geoforms and modeling processes at the bottom of the estuary are similar to those found in other ordos studied in Alaska, Canada, Greenland, Scotland and Chile. The results
suggest the change of the name "Estero Fouqué" by "Fouqué Fjord", given its markedly glacial origin
