Abstract

Stephanodiscus agassizensis Hakansson & Kling (Stephanodiscaceae) is reported for the first time from Chilean waters. The species was found in a sample collected in Lake Chungará (18º14’S, 69º09’W), and the material is deposited in the Diatom Collection of the University of Concepción, Chile. Photographs taken under light and scanning electron microscopes show the principal morphological features of this taxon.
