CYTOGENETIC STUDIES IN POPULATIONS OF HYPOCHAERIS APARGIOIDES HOOK. ET ARN. (ASTERACEAE, LACTUCEAE) FROM CHILE
Keywords:

Karyotypic data are presented for plants in seven populations of Hypochaeris apargioides Hook. et Arn. from the VIII
Region of Chile. Individuals reveal a chromosome number of 2n = 8 or 2n = 16. The basic set of chromosomes does not
differ significantly in the index of karyotypic asymmetry (AsI%) or the intrachromosomal index (A1). The basic
chromosomal set in all seven populations consists of two pairs of metacentric chromosomes and 2 pairs of subtelocentric
chromosomes. Another noteworthy characteristic is the presence of secondary constrictions in the long arm of chromosome
number 2 and in the short arm of chromosome number 3. This is the first report of tetraploids 2n = 16, in this species,
and they are found in two different populations.
