CYANOPHYCEAE, EUGLENOPHYCEAE, CHLOROPHYCEAE, ZYGNEMATOPHYCEAE AND CHAROPHYCEAE IN CHILEAN RICE PADDIES

A taxonomical study of the group algae of rice paddy fields were described at 15 localities in the 6th, 7th and 8th regions of Chile. 31 samples collected during january 1997 contained a total of 40 taxa: 5 Cyanophyceae, 11 Euglenophyceae, 6 Chlorophyceae, 16 Zygnematophyceae and 2 Charophyceae. 9 of these taxa were new records for Chile and it extends the distribution of others 22 taxa in the country. In this work, the Bacillariophyceae (diatoms) is not include. The most developed weed algae in paddy fields are Nitella acuminata, followed by Chara braunii and to a lesser degree, filamentous algae of the orders Oedogoniales and Zygnematales.
