Abstract

This paper is a contribution to the knowledge of the vascular fl ora of Chile, bringing together in one text the information
about the meaning of names of the Chilean genera of vascular plants. For this purpose, we updated the list of valid genera
native to Chile and revised all the available and currently dispersed literature in relation to the origin of the names. We also
included relevant information about the distribution of each genus and the number of native species present in Chile.
