Abstract

New records of the rare species Heliotropium geissei are reported for central Chile. Nomenclature of the species was reviewed and the lectotypification was refined. Molecular phylogenetic analyses confirm its systematic placement as a member of section Plagiomeris. An identification key to the species of section Plagiomeris is provided. The conservation status of the species was evaluated and the IUCN category endangered (EN) is suggested.
