Abstract

The dignified death bill abolishes the limitations imposed by Law 20.584 on the informed consent of terminally ill patients. Medical assistance in dying is constituted as a right, defines the notion of terminal patient and establishes the requirements to make the request effective by the patient. This paper analyzes the main concepts used in this bill and its relationship with current regulations. This research shows inconsistencies of the project with the role of the doctor on the administration of the lethal substance, as well as with respect to the maintenance of ordinary support measures.
