Introduction. The rapid growth of new technologies has transformed the traditional way of delivering services. This technological development has brought positive implications; however, it has also led to the emergence of new psychosocial occupational risks, such as technostress. Objective. The aim of this study is to conduct a literature review on technostress, analyzing its causes, manifestations, and its relationship with age. Methods. This is a theoretical, non-experimental, cross-sectional, and documentary study based on information retrieved from PubMed and Google Scholar databases over the past five years. Results. Technostress can be considered a global illness, as it contributes to work absenteeism, loss of productivity, and occupational accidents worldwide, having negative implications for workers’ physical and mental health. Poor management in the implementation of new technologies in the workplace can lead to multiple physical and psychological consequences or symptoms, among which anxiety, mental fatigue, and depression are the most frequent. Age shows a directly proportional relationship with occupational technostress, being more prevalent among women with long professional experience who hold higher-ranking positions. Conclusions. Continuous and progressive training in the appropriate use of information and communication technologies should be promoted through courses and professional updates to facilitate their implementation and employee adaptation. It is essential to establish preventive and intervention strategies, including the development of protocols for the assessment, diagnosis, and prevention of the technostress syndrome.
