Given the fact that there is no way to abstract ourselves from the meaning and importance that has had, has and will have the issue of leadership in our society, the objective of this article seeks to highlight the strategic role that plays a leader in every company, government institution or organization that is inserted in the markets of the current economy, especially when we see the erratic way in which some of our “leaders” behave –and act–, either at a business management, armed forces, political or even religious level. As a methodology, extensive bibliographic review will be used, in order to carry out a documentary investigation, accompanied by various cases and examples of leaders and organizations that reveal how the exercise of leadership is carried out. The reality shows us, that much remains to be learned about what it really means to be an ethical and emotionally intelligent leader. This research,
together with helping to increase the stock of knowledge related to leadership, as a conclusion highlights the urgent need to do things somewhat differently, given the high level of distrust and disapproval that exists today towards current leaders.
